One of Silverstar Holding’s subsidiary companies, Xplosiv, released details today regarding its latest off-road racing title which is currently in devlopment. The game, titled Off Road, is a part of Xplosiv’s Ford series but takes a departure from the previous games in the series by driving out of the cities and dropping players into the rougher landscape. Another first time for this series is the inclusion of the Land Rover line of vehicles into the series. Players will lead off road vehicles of various types such as trucks, 4x4 vehicles, and SUVs over courses specifically designed to give players an exciting high speed, rough road experience.
The CEO of Empire Interactive, Ian Higgins, further reinforced the novel nature of the new game by stating that “is an exciting step forward for the Ford franchise” due to the “impressive vehicles, stunning environments and great new features” which will be found in the game. Off Road, according to Mr. Higgins, is further assisted by the “introduction of the Land Rover brand” which “has brought real excitement and an even stronger appeal to the franchise.”
In addition Clive Kabatznik, the CEO of Silverstar Holdings, stated that “the release of Off Road illustrates Empire’s ability to continually garner new interest from already successful licenses” before adding that all of Silverstar was “ thrilled to be introducing the Land Rover brand and the mass market appeal that having two truly global brands will bring.”
In addition to repairing damaged vehicles that occurs in real time, much quicker vehicle acceleration, and new paths to explore which will take a list of other key features has been provided by Xplosiv and lies below:
- 18 officially licensed Land Rover and Ford off road vehicles
- 24 detailed tracks encouraging high speed racing
- 3 off-road environments: desert, water and ice
- Real time, on-the-go damage repair
- Hidden short-cuts
- In-game pickups: repair pods, time extensions, artefacts and cash
- Multiplayer racing via split screen (PS2 – 2 players ) and Wi-fi (PSP – 6 players)
- 12 race modes: Standard Race, Elimination, Time Attack, Overtake, Slalom, Checkpoint, Checkpoint Sprint, Seconds Out, Gold Rush, Gauntlet, Low Damage Race, and Expedition.
Off Road’s release date has been scheduled for the 21st of March for the PSP, PS2, and PC versions with the Wii version following during the 2nd quarter of 2008.
