In an earlier story uploaded in October TGR reported on Rockstar’s defense of it’s Manhunt 2 title against an attempt by the British Board of Film Classification to ban the sale of Manhunt 2 in England due to the game’s violent content. Rockstar defeated the ban but, in a story released today at the BBFC’s website, the British Board of Film Classification is appealing the reversal of Manhunt 2. The BBFC is asking the Video Appeals Committee to conduct a judicial review of the decision in order to have the VAC’s decision to ban Manhunt 2 and, should that be accomplished, to have the VAC’s decision suspended.

The basis for the BBFC’s decision centers around the claim that, in the mind of the BBFC, the VAC’s decision was the result of an ill applied interpretation of the Video Recordings Act. The BBFC is also concerned because if the VAC’s decision stands it would affect all of the future BBFC’s decisions, even those where high levels of violence were the cause of the BBFC ruling. If the BBFC is scucessful in getting the VAC’s decision overturned then there will be a lay period where Manhunt 2’s status will be decided by a Judicial Review before Manhunt 2’s official sales status in England is formally determined.
