Given their recent announcement that Crytek would no longer release PC-exclusive games, many began to wonder where their interests would turn next. Would they head over to the Wii, sacrificing technical prowess for a huge install base? Perhaps they might visit Microsoft, bringing their shooters to a console with a rabid FPS fanbase? Or maybe they could start working with Sony, unlocking the true power of the Cell processor? Well, it looks like all those predictions might be wrong, as it appears that Crytek is heading to the PSP of all places.
A recent job posting on Crytek’s website mentions that the company is looking for a PSP programmer with multiplatform experience to work on a new project. Obviously, that’s a pretty specific request, meaning it’s not too much of a stretch to believe that whatever comes after Crysis Warhead will be aimed at the PSP.
This news, if true, is a boon to PSP owners who may still be reeling after learning that Ready at Dawn was quitting PSP development to work on other projects. With the company behind two of the platforms biggest successes departing, owners wondered if there would ever be another company that could make such great handheld games. If Crytek manages to bring even a sliver of the technical prowess and gameplay fun that they managed with their other work, then PSP owners are in for a treat when the new project comes to light.
