Turbine recently secured $40 million in funding from Time Warner, and a lot of heads turned and ears perked up in order to try and figure out where that money would go. Today Turbine’s communications director Adam Mersky confirmed that the funding will be put towards developing an MMO for consoles, but he’s mum on the details.
Those closely following Turbine’s work will note that they are the creators of both Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online, and so the initial reaction is to assume that one of those franchises may be coming to consoles. Of course, it could be something else entirely, and then we’ll all die a little inside due to our dashed hopes and crushed dreams.
Whatever the project is, it’s moving full speed ahead, as Turbine has already hired 60 people since the beginning of the year, and they are looking to add 40 more. So if you happen to be a promising young developer looking for a job, you may want to pop over to their website and see if they have something for you. Oh, and if you do, please remember who told you about this, and let us know what you’re working on, k? It would be ever so kind of you.
